How to use it
Enter your bankroll and the table shows the highest regular event cost under three common guidelines. Add the cost of the events you usually play and the tool works out how many buy-ins you actually hold and highlights the guidelines you meet.
What each figure means
- Buy-ins available: bankroll ÷ cost per event.
- Suggested max cost per event: bankroll ÷ the buy-ins that guideline requires (50, 100 or 200).
- Move-down line: when your bankroll falls below 70 buy-ins for your current level, dropping a level is advised. The figure shown is the bankroll below which you should move down.
- Shot cap: when you occasionally play above your usual level, keep a single entry to no more than 5% of the bankroll.
Which guideline to use
| Style | Buy-ins | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Aggressive | 50 | Mostly small fields, and a bankroll you can rebuild quickly |
| Standard | 100 | Most players treating tournaments as a long-term hobby |
| Conservative | 200 | Regular large fields, or a bankroll that is hard to replace |
These are rules of thumb widely used among players, not guarantees. Their purpose is to let you decide while you are calm, instead of deciding in the middle of a losing run.
